About Gunga

WHO: Gunga LaGunga, an Original Groove Band from Kaua'i
WHAT: "WOOF", Their first full length Album has just been released Worldwide
WHERE: The North Shore of Kaua'i, The Legendary Tahiti Nui Bar and Lounge
WHEN: The Album was released on August 1 2015, Unofficial CD Release Party Gig at the Nui on Friday September 25, and Friday October 2nd, Mini Tour of Washington D.C. in October.

Gunga LaGunga, an Original Groove Band from Kaua'i has just released their first Album, entitled "WOOF".  All ten tracks are original music from the band, recorded at Fat Tuesday Records on the Island of Kaua'i.  Engineered by Legendary Recording Master Ron Pendragon, "WOOF" was produced by Jeff Gordon, with Major Assistance by Allan Thomas, of Black Bamboo Studios (also on Kaua'i).

Gunga has been #1 on the ReverbNation local charts for over 4 weeks since the Album dropped.

Gunga LaGunga is Jeff "Gordo" Gordon on guitar and vocals, Mike "Berk" Berkemeyer on bass, and Rhett "Stix" Pierce on drums.  They play regularly at the Legendary Tahiti Nui Bar (the oldest Tiki bar on Kaua'i).  Unofficial CDRelease party will be Friday, September 25 and Friday, October 2nd at the Tahiti Nui.  On October 8, 2015, Gunga will kick off a mini-tour of Washington D.C., playing the Willard Hotel for the Potomac Institute's Navigator Celebration.  Upon returning to Kaua'i, the Band will continue it's 2015 Worldwide Tour of the North Shore of Kaua'i.

Gunga's music can be described as Original Groove Rock, with influences like Paul Simon, Tom Petty, The Band, and Bruce Springsteen.  "WOOF" is available now on iTunes, Google Play, CD Baby, Reverb Nation, and the Band's website

Mike "Berk" and "Stix" Pierce had been playing together on Kaua'i at the Tahiti Nui, for over ten years when "Gordo" moved to the Island in 2010.  The trio started gigging and recording almost immediately, as the music just clicked and the grooves were effortless and infectious.  The crowds started building at the Nui, so the band headed into the recording studio to record "WOOF".  Gordo wrote the songs, while Stix and Berk laid down the rhythm that has become Gunga's signature sound.  Expect to dance, a lot, at their live shows.

Berkemeyer and Stix are the veteran musicians of Gunga, having opened up for such acts as Led Zeppelin, Blind Faith, Bob Dylan, and Willie Nelson.  Gordo is the young gun in the band, having opened for bands like Blues Traveler, Eek-A-Mouse, and Widespread Panic.  Gunga's extensive experience playing as live musicians goes against the grain of modern, computer generated music, and that's just fine with them.  "When you make music on a computer, you can make it absolutely perfect, perfectly in time and in tune, even if the performer is unable to do it live" says Gordon.  "This was always the dream of every producer, until we finally got what we asked for - 'perfect music', and it sucked!"  The Art of Playing Live is what they band is all about, and that's what they captured in the studio.  It was a live session.  Real playing, real singing, real music.

When not playing or recording, you can find the Gunga boys cruising the North Shore of Kaua'i,
boogey boarding, surfing, catching the legendary Hanalei sunsets at the Pier.  They also perform for K.O.R.E. (Kaua'i Ocean Recreation Experience, which is a fantastic charitable organization that brings physically challenged/special needs people into the ocean, with the assistance of trained professionals, so they can experience the beauty of the ocean waves.  You can see photos and videos of the band on their Facebook page as well as their website,
